James Benning

The work of American artist James Benning is characterised by a special relationship with the landscape and masterly use of the sequence shot. Presented for the first time, his remake of Easy Rider (1969) is a perfect illustration of his preoccupations. Each sequence of Dennis Hopper's film is replaced by a fixed shot at the same place, a process by which James Benning brings back to life landscapes associated in viewers' minds with the set of a cult film.
